Maartense, Roel age 88, passed away May 15, 2023 at home with his loving wife, Johanna Maartense, of 55 years by his side.

Although the greater part of his life took place in the USA, his thoughts were always with us. And that's also how we felt it. As often as possible he visited the Netherlands: in the early years together with Jo, in later years alone. He always showed his love for his family as well as for his beloved homeland. Together with Jo Roel started a beautiful family of his own. Through the internet we could partake in the beautiful moments in his life, but also in the  difficult times that took place. In recent years Roel was a bit less mobile, but until the end he continued to help Jo keep the garden in order. We will miss Roel and regularly remember the beautiful moments we had with him during his visits to Holland.

Hoewel het grootste deel van zijn leven zich heeft afgespeeld in de USA waren zijn gedachten altijd bij ons. En zo hebben wij dat ook gevoeld. Zo vaak als mogelijk heeft hij Nederland bezocht: in de beginjaren met Jo, in latere jaren alleen. Immer liet hij blijken van zijn familie te houden evenals van zijn geliefde geboortegrond. Roel heeft samen met Jo een prachtig gezin gekregen waarvan wij op internet mooie momenten hebben meegekregen maar waar zich ook moeilijke tijden hebben afgespeeld. De afgelopen jaren was Roel wat minder mobiel maar tot op het laatst bleef hij Jo helpen met het op orde houden van de tuin. Wij zullen Roel missen en regelmatig terugdenken aan de mooie momenten tijdens zijn bezoeken aan Holland.
